Check your Apple Account country
The card must come from the country your Apple Account is set to. A US card can only be linked to a US account, a UK card to a UK account, and so on.
Buy a card worth at least one month
Pick a value at or above the ChatGPT Plus price of your storefront (table below), and pay the exact crypto amount. The code appears in your account within 24 hours of payment confirmation.
Redeem the code in the App Store
On iPhone, open the App Store and tap your photo, initials or the My Account button. Tap Redeem Code, then Enter Code Manually. Type the code and tap Redeem.
Subscribe to ChatGPT Plus in the ChatGPT app
Open the ChatGPT app, signed in to your own ChatGPT account. Choose ChatGPT Plus, an in-app purchase, and confirm it with your Apple Account. Apple takes the price from your balance first.
Top up before each renewal
Each month Apple tries the balance first, then your other payment methods. Redeem the next card before the renewal date if the balance is lower than the price.
Will Apple take my balance or my bank card?
Your balance, first. Apple's rules state that it "attempts to use your Apple Account balance to cover the full amount". If the balance is short, "Apple attempts to charge your primary payment method", then the others in your list, top to bottom.
Apple adds two caveats for App Store purchases, ChatGPT included:
- "Some subscriptions might not be charged to your Apple Account balance." Apple names no list, and OpenAI's help does not mention the Apple balance either.
- "Some purchases might require that you have a credit card on file."

What happens at renewal when the balance runs out?
Apple tries your other payment methods. "If none of your payment methods can be charged, your account shows a negative balance", and new purchases stay blocked until you fix the payment method.
The subscription does not stop at once. Apple's developer documentation says the App Store "attempts to renew the subscription for up to 60 days". OpenAI's help adds that a failed Apple renewal does not cancel ChatGPT automatically. If you then subscribe again on chatgpt.com, Apple can still recover the old charge later, and you can end up paying twice.
So keep one rule: before the renewal date, the balance must hold at least one month.
How much is ChatGPT Plus in the App Store outside the US?
According to AISubswithCrypto's price check of 29 October 2026, 28 of 38 App Store storefronts charge more for ChatGPT Plus than the US (US$19.99), in USD. 8 charge less. The median is US$23.73. Cheapest: Philippines, US$15.61. Dearest: Colombia, US$31.74, or 2.03× the cheapest.

Is ChatGPT Plus cheaper in the app or on the website?
In the US they are almost equal: US$19.99 in the App Store against US$20 on the web. In France the App Store shows 22,99 € and chatgpt.com €23. The difference is the payment route, not the price: the App Store takes an Apple balance, the web takes a card or, in the US, OpenAI's own ChatGPT gift card. More: App Store vs web price.
Can I move an App Store ChatGPT subscription to the web or another account?
Not directly. OpenAI says "Apple App Store subscriptions are managed by Apple". To switch, "you must first cancel your subscription on the same platform where you originally started it." Its help also says "Mobile subscriptions cannot be transferred between ChatGPT accounts".
So subscribe in the app while signed in to the ChatGPT account you will keep. We never sell, share or rent ChatGPT, Claude or other AI accounts, and we never ask for your login or password.
Can I use the official ChatGPT gift card in the iPhone app?
No. OpenAI's help: "Gift card balances can't pay for subscriptions billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store." The ChatGPT card pays the web plan only, for US accounts. In the app, the App Store card is the one that pays.
